Remove hair safely and easily with Laser Hair Removal now at Equipoise

Removing unwanted hair can be a chore – razor bumps and cuts, 5 o’clock shadow, home waxing disasters, the list goes on…That’s why we are so excited to be introducing laser hair removal at Equipoise – your easy, long-term solution for fuzz-free skin.

About Laser Hair Removal

Laser is a long-lasting, semi-permanent method of removing hair. It works by using light to damage or destroy the hair follicle to prevent future hair growth. During treatment your Equipoise therapist will hold a handpiece of the laser machine to the area to be treated. Light will be triggered which targets the pigment in individual hairs and travels down the shaft of the hair into the follicle. This light turns into heat and essentially cooks the follicle – causing it to stop producing hair.

A major benefit of laser hair removal is that it is usually painless, especially compared to other treatments such as waxing or electrolysis. Clients often compare the sensation of the treatment to a light rubber band snapping on the skin. Treatments are fast, usually taking around 10-20 minutes and aftercare is minimal, meaning you can easily pop in for your treatments, even on your lunch break – ideal!

Our Laser Hair Technology

Our treatments are administered with EpiLED – the world’s first high power LED equipment for hair removal. EpiLED emits light at multiple wavelengths, destroying hair more reliably than a single wavelength laser. This wide spectrum laser means light can penetrate the epidermis and dermis safely. The machine allows ten shots per second, meaning we can treat areas effectively in a short period of time. Our machines offer safe and powerful hair removal with a water and cooling system to help keep you comfortable during treatment.

Are you Suitable for Laser Hair Removal?

In order for the machine to recognise hair, the hair must have some melanin or pigment. For red and blonde hair we will need to check the presence of melanin in your hair with a test patch. If there is no melanin the treatment will not be effective. White hair unfortunately won’t be able to be treated (but we can talk to you about other hair removal options). Laser hair removal is suitable for most skin types, with some limitations. Treatment is most successful on those with light complexions and dark hair, and darker skin may require a lower setting or more treatments. We need to be careful not to damage surrounding tissue. In darker skins we do more passes with lower energy. This ensures effectiveness without damage.

We ask that you shave the area to be treated before the session, as we want a little stubble to be present but not long hair. We require the hair root for treatment – so please avoid waxing, plucking or any other method that removes the entire hair from the root.

Number of Laser Hair Removal Treatments Required

Hair grows in cycles including resting, growing and shedding periods. We recommend clients undergo 6-10 treatments for lasting results. Due to hair growth cycles, we suggest treating body areas every 6 weeks and facial areas every four weeks. The hair cycle of the face is more rapid than the body so this is why we have different times. However, as a general rule we treat every four weeks. Some clients reach the point of no hair growth in a particular area after a treatment course, and may choose to return on occasion for a maintenance or top-up treatment. Individual results vary and are affected by a number of factors including skin tone, hair pigment and the location of the treatment.

Side Effects

Side effects of laser hair removal are considered to be low and unlikely to occur. Our machines are specifically designed for hair follicle penetration, ensuring very little of the light is absorbed by skin tissue. However some possible side effects can include changes in the colour of the skin, redness, or blistering or crusting of the skin.

Contra-indications

There are a few contra-indications which may affect your ability to receive treatment. These include having sun exposure (including sunbeds and fake tan) within three weeks of the appointment, melatonin injections, topical retinoids, acne medications, metal plates or pins in the treatment area, skin conditions and infections, and use of waxing or depilatory creams in the week prior to treatment. Our therapists can discuss these with you.

If stubble-free skin is on your mind – now is a great time to start planning your laser hair removal. Get in touch for a free consultation with one of our wonderful therapists.
