Perfecting Your Night Time Skincare Routine

Here’s our guide to sweet skin and sweet dreams.

Take Off The Day

Your mum was right. Taking your makeup off before going to sleep is non-negotiable. Most cleansers aren’t created for removing make up, so we suggest you opt for a specific make up removing product, especially if you wear eye makeup. By removing make up first you will help to prevent clogged pores, congestion and skin irritation. We are loving Skin Moderne’s Makeup Removing Smoothie – a soothing and mild cleansing oil that cleanses and nurtures at the same time without leaving a greasy film on the skin.

Cleanse

Now that you’ve gotten rid of anything on top of your skin, a gentle cleanser will help to freshen up your skin. You also want to incorporate an exfoliator into your skincare routine to remove dull, dead skin cells and allow for better absorption of products post-cleansing.

Pro top - once a week, you might like to add a mask into your skincare routine after cleansing. We love Skin Moderne’s Cleansing Gel Smoothie – a sulfate-free cleanser that cleanses and purifies using the power of plant superfood extracts,

Tone

A lot of people shy away from toner – probably after teenage years of using too strong a product and not really understanding what toner actually does. Toner works to calibrate the skin by balancing pH and moisture levels. We are loving Ultraceutical’s Ultra Hydrating Skin Mist and Skin Moderne’s Refreshment Spritz. Both are face mists that work as a toner to refresh and balance skin. Order your Ultraceuticals products here.

Treat

This is where you can target any skin specific concerns you have with serums. There are all kinds of serums out there – from skin lightening and brightening to anti-ageing. Retinol is a great choice when it comes to fine lines and wrinkles. You might like to try a Vitamin C serum for brightness, a moisture infusion serum for skin prone to dryness, or an AHA/BHA serum that will renew and refine skin. Pro-tip: this is also a good time to add any spot treatments for breakouts.

Eye Cream

Before you rest your eyes for the night, make sure you dab on some eye cream. The skin around our eyes is particularly fragile and sensitive. Eye cream helps to target puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles. We are loving Skin Moderne’s Eye Smoothie – an eye treatment made with rich moisturisers, active plant cells and Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid to smoothen, firm and brighten.

Moisturise

The final step is to lock in that much needed moisture to ensure your skin stays hydrated through the night. You can use your daily moisturiser or opt for something night specific. We love Ultraceutical’s Ultra Moisturiser Cream – a rich moisturiser that contains Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E that hydrates and leaves skin feeling soft and supple. Order your Ultraceuticals products here.
